Here's two questions I've had ever since I got the first DVD of the GXP series:
In the Tenchiverse is there some reason why people are so willing to "share" life-partners?
In the Tenchiverse is there something about being a "power user" like Tenchi or Seina that affects everyone of the opposite gender?
In the OVA tenchi series I assumed that the humorous situation required a little bending of the social norms. Most adolescent males think that living in a house with various gorgeous ladies, all of whom are interested in you, is a dream come true. Looking at it with an older outlook, you couldn't pay me enough. The potential for fights and someone (probably me, being a normal human) getting hurt would be too high. I just chalked the attitudes of the ladies up to the anime being what it was.
When GXP came out I was a little startled to see the hero getting into trouble.. and slowly picking up a growing "family" of older women who were helping him out. Its true to the Tenchi genre, but it got me thinking.
The ladies in GXP don't seem to mind the concept of sharing a life-partner. They also don't seem upset at all over being life-partners with each other. (Okay, so they all want more time with Seina, but..) Is this something that is in the canon as being part of the Jurian culture?
"Powerful" men are also able to pull the ladies straight out of the woodwork. Tenchi is powerful in any continuity, but Seina is nothing to laugh at. These are the only two characters I've seen in the Tenchiverse who have the "harem" problem. Seina even manages to attract Seto! Again, is there something in the canon that explains this?
If not, I'll just run with what the Harem Saga explains. (Shameless plug for a good author, I know.)
